Developmental Editing
Developmental editing is all about the big picture. Is your book telling your readers the story you think it’s telling them? We’ll ferret out the depths of your character’s development and world building needs. Does your story’s pacing need to speed up or slow down? Are any plot threads dropped along the way to your thrilling conclusion? Fiction or nonfiction, have you drawn your reader in and captivated them until they can’t put down your book? I’ll work with you on all of that!

How it works

When you hire me, you’ll send me your manuscript and I’ll do 2-3 passes before returning your manuscript, with comments.

I’ll send you a detailed developmental edit letter with specific, actionable suggestions for you to consider.

We will also hold a 1-hour video chat for any questions you might have, discussions or suggestions you’d like, or anything you’d like to talk about.
Frequently Asked Questions
We can still talk about working together. Not every genre or book needs a specialist, sometimes that’s up to you as the author to decide. And if we agree I’m not the right person for the job, I may be able to suggest someone who does work in your genre.
I don’t use ChatGPT or any other AI tool to analyze manuscripts. Everything is done by me, a human editor. I regularly update my security to do my best to ensure that the data on my computer isn’t being scraped for AI training.
Use a standard Times New Roman font, 12 point type, double spaced with 1-inch margins
I prefer using Microsoft Word with Track Changes. I can also use Google Docs or Pages if those are your only available programs.
I can accept your manuscript as a Microsoft Word document or Google Docs attached to your email. If you don’t have this program, please let me know and we’ll see what alternatives work for both of us.
No. I’m afraid that is outside the scope of what I do. Instead, I will do my best to help you get your manuscript in the best shape it can be for your next step towards getting published.
Yes! When your book is ready to be published, let me know! Send me a jpeg of the cover, photos or your launch party, etc. While I won’t promote it as extensively as you will, I will definitely help spread the word.
