Before I just start writing about writing, editing, writing tips, etc. I thought I should introduce myself. After all, you might want to know if I have any idea what I’m talking about when I offer suggestions to you. Or at least, who that new person is who has thrown her pen into the ring of bloggers talking about writing. There are plenty of us out there!

I’m Anne Morgan. As you might assume, I absolutely love reading and writing. Been doing it all my life, for fun and not because someone made me. I love romance, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, but strangely enough I am also a huge nonfiction history fan. Especially English history (Tudor, Regency, and Victorian in particular, although I’ve been getting into the Wars of the Roses in a big way lately). History was my thing in school, which turned into library science and archives in grad school.
I worked at Book Revue, one of the largest independent bookstores in the Northeast, for years before I decided to brave grad school and loved it. There’s so much creativity in working at an indie bookstore! You get such interesting conversations with customers, get to recommend all kinds of books, and get to do a bit of everything when it comes to the job. After school I went into the world of museums and archives and found that a surprising amount of skills between the two overlap. I did tons of writing- not only technical but label writing for exhibits; blogs and social media posts; and newspaper articles to get people excited about the museum. I helped a friend with his book, doing so much rewriting and editing that by the end he insisted I was actually a co-author! I also beta read for a mystery writer friend. Eventually she told me I should try and get into editing professionally, because not only did I seem to enjoy it, but I was good at it.
It took a few years for me to take her advice seriously, but now I’m starting my own freelance editing business, Anne Morgan Edits, and I’m going to give it a try. In this blog I will do my best to give tips on writing, dealing with writer’s block, some editing every writer can do, and anything else I think I can suggest that writers might be interested in. I plan on writing casually, as if we’re sitting down over a cup of coffee and chatting, so I hope you don’t mind that style.
This will be a journey for us all, so let’s see where the path takes us!
